A Discussion on The Good University: What Universities Actually Do and Why It’s Time for Radical Change With Raewyn Connell and Maitrayee Chaudhuri Raewyn Connell is Professor Emerita at the University of Sydney, and a Life Member of the National Tertiary Education Union in Australia. She has taught in several countries, and is a widely-cited researcher on questions of gender relations, education and social justice, and the global economy of knowledge. At the 2023 World Congress of Sociology she was presented with the International Sociological Association’s quadrennial Award for Excellence in Research and Practice. Her most recent book is Research, Politics, Social Change. Her other books include The Good University, Southern Theory, Masculinities, Gender & Power, Ruling Class Ruling Culture, and Making the Difference.

Maitrayee Chaudhuri is a former Professor of Sociology at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems (CSSS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). She is one of the co-founders of Doing Sociology and the current President of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS). Her books include Feminism in India, Indian Women’s Movement: Reform and Revival, Sociology in India: Intellectual and Institutional Practices, Refashioning India: Gender, Media, and a Transformed Public Discourse, The Indian Women’s Movement: Reform and Revival, The Practice of Sociology and Doing Theory: Locations, Hierarchies and Disjunctions.
