Kamala Ganesh was formerly a Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Mumbai ( Bombay). Her fields of interests include gender and kinship, women’s history and archiving for women, culture and identity and Indian diaspora studies. She has been an ICSSR Senior Research Fellow, a Scholar in Residence at Shiv Nadar University and a Fellow and Visiting Professor at Universiteit Leiden / Leiden University Netherlands and WWU Münster – Münster University in Germany. Most recently she has been the M.N.Srinivas Chair Professor at the Institute of Social and Economic Change Bangalore.
