Maroona Murmu is currently a Professor of History at Jadavpur University. She has written a number of articles on gender studies in colonial India and the caste question in Bengal in journals and edited books. Her book Words of her Own: Women Authors in Nineteenth-Century Bengal was published by Oxford University Press. Apart from anti-caste activism, she engages in issues concerning the Adivasis, development-induced displacements, and ecological disasters.
